Earth Sciences Field Camp

Take learning outside of the classroom and imbed it in real Waitaha Canterbury examples and experiences!

Earth Science in the real world!

From limestone outcrops and marble to fractured greywacke, river erosion and evidence of fault movement, the region provides a rich setting for hands-on learning.

Students can observe and photograph landscape features, collect rock samples at appropriate locations, and explore how geological processes have shaped the land.

These experiences give students real examples to draw on when discussing classroom concepts.

Designed Around Your Learning Outcomes!

We work closely with accompanying teachers to build a programme that supports your school’s Level 2 Earth and Space Science learning goals.

The camp offers opportunities to support Achievement Standards AS91189, AS91191, AS91192 and AS91193, with locations and activities selected to complement your teaching.

Teachers lead curriculum content and make assessment connections, while our instructors manage outdoor activities and contribute local knowledge.

Learning Through Adventure!

Outdoor activities create opportunities to access geological features while developing students’ practical skills and confidence.

Depending on your programme, students may abseil beside exposed rock formations, walk through landscapes shaped by erosion and tectonic movement, or use maps and compasses to navigate the area.

Team challenges and shared experiences encourage communication, problem-solving and cooperation throughout the camp.
