This advanced Outdoor Pre-Hospital Emergency Care (PHEC) course is the go-to qualification for outdoor professionals in Aotearoa. Recognised by outdoor education providers and adventure tourism operators, it equips you with the skills and knowledge to manage emergencies in remote environments, where access to medical help may be delayed.

Course Overview

 

Over five intensive days, you'll explore the theory of emergency care in a dynamic, interactive setting. Then you’ll put that theory into practice with realistic outdoor scenarios designed to challenge your thinking and sharpen your skills under pressure.

Course Includes

  • Patient assessment and emergency decision-making

  • Resuscitation, including oxygen therapy

  • Fracture and wound management

  • Multiple casualty management

  • Medical conditions and illness response

  • Semi-Automatic Defibrillation (AED)

  • Patient transportation and evacuation

  • Managing specific environmental conditions

  • Intra-muscular medication administration

Course Structure and Cost

 

Dates: 13 to 17 July 2026 (16 and 17 July for refresher course)

Cost (Full Course): $940

Cost (Refresher): $440

 

The PHEC course will run from 9am – 4pm over 5 days (2 days for the refresher), with some light evening work and pre-course reading required.
