Facilities
The
main building, known
as The
Lodge,
sleeps 64 people through platform-type bunkrooms (the size varies from 4 to
20 in each bunkroom) and one two-bunk staff room. Everything is electrically
heated with night store heaters.
The spacious kitchen, part
of the open plan dining hall, contains gas and electric cooking facilities,
ample refrigeration and freezer space and all the necessary cooking and
serving utensils to cater for up to 70 people. The kitchen is also equipped
with a sterilizer.
The
lounge, which is fully carpeted, is equipped with stacking chairs and
folding tables enabling multi use. It is also equipped with a viewing area
for videos, slides and films and is a great space for group discussions,
games, study and lectures. A small library occupies one corner.
There
are separate male and female toilets, showers and basins and also a
dual-purpose staff/disability area. A large drying room for wet gear operates between 11pm and 6am when needed. Teaching Aids
White
board, slide projector, overhead projector, reference books, video, and some
videotapes are provided. The following is a list of gear provided by the lodge for hire: Parkas, over trousers, polypropylene, polar fleece clothing, woollen hats and mittens, wetsuits, paddle jackets, helmets, rubber tubes, tents, fly's, sleeping mats, packs, billies, cookers, snow shovels, ice axes, compasses, maps, a portable toilet, trangia cookers, gas cookers, two rafts, survival bags, ropes and assorted gear. First Aid The usual emergency first aid equipment including stretchers is provided.
