Leadership
Each student will get the task of being ‘Leader of the day’ at least once within the trip. This will give them the opportunity to decide what the group does for the day (within guide lines given by the instructors). They will be responsible for organising the group and giving briefings for activities or tasks, being ready on time and leading as a good role model.

Food
We will always have a good selection of fresh fruit and vegetables where our trip allows. All food requirements are easily catered for. Please let us know well ahead of time if there are any special dietary requirements on the Enrolment Form, so we can make sure we have a good selection of food available. The students will all be involved with cooking and cleaning duties. They will also be required to be involved with the food shopping and menu planning.

Supervision
Students will be accompanied and instructed in all outdoor activities by experienced instructors. The instructors will be on call at all times and monitoring the safety of the students. There will be no more than 10 students in a group.
There will be some unaccompanied time in small towns such as Reefton, Hanmer Springs and Kaikoura, but instructors will be on hand and nearby in case of any problems.

Journal
Each student will receive a Journal for the trip. They will be able to keep track of their experiences and thoughts whilst they are taking part in all of the tasks and activities. They will have time during the day to complete this and then will take away some wonderful memories with them at the end of the Journey.
We will strive to have some ‘down time’ each day. The way the students spend their time is up to them. They can choose between reading, relaxing, sunbathing, snoozing, and listening to music, cards or any other relaxing activity.

Managing risk is crucial to the quality of the Boyle experience and Boyle Staff are experienced in this. Students are expected to take part in the process of risk management and be actively involved and responsible for the safety of themselves and others. For the safety of the whole group any student not complying with the expectations of a normal school camp will be sent home.
