Kayak/Raft Courses

These exciting courses are based in Hanmer Springs with access to the pools and several local rivers providing a variety of learning opportunities and adventure. Both the kayak and Raft courses contain a river rescue component. Our aim is to help you become more independent, confident and skilled in the white-water environment - moving you on from your present level.

You will have the opportunity to work towards Unit Standards in Outdoor Management - 20147 L3 C3 (STAR funding maybe available from your school to help towards the cost).

The following unit standards may also be covered:

Kayaking - 476 L2 C2, 20818 L1 C2, 20121 L2 C4

Rafting - probably 485 L2 C3

Course cost is based on a 1:4 instructor: client ratio and includes instruction, accommodation, food, transport, assessment, pools entry and gear hire for the whole five days.

Once we receive your booking we will send you, full information, programme, enrolment form and gear list.

BROEC staff are well qualified and very experienced in running programmes for all ages and levels of experience. All have current white water experience, gained in New Zealand and internationally and they hold NZOIA/NZRA qualifications.

BROEC has a high standard of safety and risk management and won the ONZ (Outdoors New Zealand) excellence award for Best Outdoor Facility in 2004.
