Information about employment at the Boyle
‘The Boyle’ is an Outdoor Education Centre catering mainly for school groups of different ages. We offer tailor made courses to suit each clients’ needs and our Facilitators therefore need to be flexible and experienced in order to cater for a range of activities and programme needs.
Boyle Facilitators are committed, skilled and enthusiastic with excellent people skills. They would normally have NZOIA qualifications in Bush and Rock and Ropes Course experience.
Adventure Based Learning is a core aspect of all our courses and the philosophy we use to deliver all our activities. There is a reputation to uphold and exceed. Feedback from twenty schools indicates that the ability to process the experience, use practices that challenge the clients and showing empathy are the outstanding characteristics of recent and current staff.
Facilitators are usually employed at the Boyle on a contract basis. Each group using the facilities has different requirements and the number of Instructors required varies from week to week. Therefore work is not full time.
Prior to working here you need to provide details of your work history and logged relevant experience and qualifications in the outdoors. A Police check will be undertaken.
You are also required to visit the centre on a voluntary basis for about a week to familiarise yourself with the facilities and the way we work. This is an opportunity for peer review and professional development. If your experience, skills and work style are considered appropriate we will ask you to attend our annual staff training in January. We may also take on staff during the year if required. You may need to undertake further training before we can employ you.
The Boyle has high standards and supports its staff with a range of staff training opportunities.
We were proud to be recognised as the best outdoor facility in New Zealand in 2004 by Outdoors New Zealand.
In 2006 we gained OutdoorsMark and have current accreditation.
